Needled

The needles for my Fuel, Temp Amp and Oil
Pressure Gauge in my ’69 Barracuda have
started to swing back in forth about one graduation.
Is this an indication that the voltage limiter
in the fuel gauge is malfunctioning?

Yes, the contacts are sticky. If they totally
stick closed, all the gauges will be charcoal
broiled. A great tutorial on how to replace
your malfunctioning integral regulator with
an external, fail-safe, solid-state one can be
found at: tinyurl.com/rallygauges .

A-bodies with rally clusters (shown), ’66-
’67 Chargers, older Imperials, etc., had
the 5V instrument regulator (limiter) built
into a gauge (usually fuel). This can be
disabled if shot, and an external regulator hooked up (see text.)
