Back Braking

I read everything in the last 2
issues about your rear disc
brake swap. I have a 1997
Grand Cherokee, and the brakes
look the same. Why is the Liberty
stuff you used better?

Yes, the XJ stuff looks similar,
but it isn’t the same:
a. The GC (XJ) pads are much
narrower
b. The rotors are 0.040˝ thinner
and more warp-prone. There
is no anti-friction replaceable
stainless wear clip, so the
pads dig into the brackets
If you want the thicker rotors, you can
bolt on the Liberty calipers, but I’d use
the original ZJ pads (narrow), so as not to
affect proportioning. No way am I a Jeep
expert, I am only familiar with this from
researching the article.
