En’gauge’ment

0

I have been trying to get my fuel gauge
working on my ’65 Dodge Dart GT. I
purchased an OE fuel sending unit and
a replacement fuel gauge (don’t think it
was NOS) from two vendors at the annual
Mopar swap meet at Big Daddy Don
Garlits’ in Ocala, Florida last year. Once
installed, the gauge started to work then
shortly after stopped. The ground is good
but I did notice repairs to the fuel sending
unit wire that made me wonder if I should
replace that as well. Unfortunately, I can’t
find that part online even with the Mopar
part number. What I found in my manual
that it’s 18 gauge. Can I use any 18 gauge
wire or is there a special ohm resistance
wire for that application? I have checked
several Mopar NOS and reproduction
companies for that part but no luck.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Any old parts store vinyl insulated,
stranded wire is fine. Nothing special.
You can check the sender with a cheap-O
ohmmeter:

FUEL LEVEL RESISTANCE, Ω
Full 9–12
Empty 71–75
