What can you tell me about the T-10
4-speed transmission in Mopars? What
years was it available? Was it available
in all bodies? With a console? All
engines?

The Borg-Warner T-10 was available in
1963 B-bodies only, and only with 318,
361, or 383s. It would have grenaded
behind the Maxi, and, surely, behind the
upcoming Hemi. No doubt it was a stopgap
measure, designed to score a few
sales while Chrysler’s New Process gear
division (Syracuse, NY), completed the
tooling and manufacturing process for the
A-833, which was designed to be virtually
bulletproof (and it was!)
In all cases, it was supplied with a
Hurst-Campbell shifter. I believe it was
available with the Sport Fury’s console,
although all versions used the same
straight shift lever.
Data plate/option code was 347. I have

never seen a breakdown of sales figures,
but, since it was late intro, I’m guessing it
was quite low.
Interestingly, the Plymouths and
Dodges that were T-10 equipped used
the same stick (shift lever) as 300Js,
although nothing else interchanged.
318 versions were a bit different than
big-blocks, primarily in gear ratios:
GEAR (speed) 318 361–383

1 2.54:1 2.20
2 1.89 1.64
3 1.51 1.31
4 1.00 (direct) 1.00 (direct)
The super close ratios of the big-block
version must have been tough on the
clutch, but a pleasure on the highway.
The Jan. 1963 parts book edition lists
components for an extension housing
adapter, yet the Nov. 30, 1962 TSB photos
show a conventional output flange for
the B&T U-joint.
