See The A/C Die

I have a 1974 Fury II, 360, that I drive a
lot. The air conditioning hasn’t worked in
years, and I’m OK with that, for now. But
yesterday the bearing in the clutch went,
making all kinds of racket and making
the pulley wobble. I was able to get a
new one locally, but I can’t figure out how
to get it off! I have every kind of puller,
between myself and my friends, but how
can you lock the jaws onto the outside?
What’s the secret?

The secret is that no puller is needed!
Procedure: Leave the belt(s) on and tight.
Connect +12V from the battery to the
clutch coil wire. Then just twist a 5/8˝-11
screw into the threaded hole, and the
clutch comes right off. No fuss, no muss.
You basically reverse the procedure to
install, using the original screw to pull the
pulley assembly back in place; make sure
you slime some fresh threadlocker onto
it, torque it down and make
sure the little Woodruff key remains in
place.
