I am buying new (repro) rallye wheels for
my 1971 Challenger (15X7˝). The catalogs
all show that 1971 cars had the dark center
cap, while 1970s were much lighter. My
car came with (when I bought it in 1987)
the light caps. Are the catalogs correct?
Yes. This question pops up regularly! The
early printing of the factory parts books
showed the light argent appliques (the
correct term for the “caps”) for both 1970
and ‘71, resulting in a lot of 1971 cars
with incorrect appliques or even mismatched
sets. All production 1971 cars
had the dark argent finish.
