Colored Rubbers

I just purchased a
1969 Valiant 200 4-door from
an estate sale. It is super-clean,
225 CID, automatic, with 37,000
miles on her. It drives nicely, but
I do have one question about
the interior. It has rubber floor

mats, not carpet, and the rubber
is blue, not black. I have
never seen rubber floor mats
in anything other than black.
Can this be correct? Original?

Yes. For ’69, there was technically
no Valiant 200, if you
check the VIN, it will be “VL”—
there was no “VM.” A 200 was
merely an option package on a
Valiant 100; you’ll find code A89
on the data plate.
Part of the 200 Decor package
was, indeed, color-keyed
molded rubber mats (four colors
were available). Carpeting
was optional (C93).
