Logo Logic

I’ve seen
a design on some old
Chrysler parts boxes (see
below). What does it stand
for?

It is read D-P-C-P-D,
and simply means “Dodge,
Plymouth, Chrysler, DeSoto
parts”. It was used officially on
retail boxes from 1933-’36 only,
but continued to be cast or
molded into many OEM parts
well into the ’60s.

Dodge-Plymouth-Chrysler-
DeSoto-Parts. That’s the
first Mopar logo. It was only
used on retail packaging
until 1936, but it was marked,
stamped, or cast onto unseen
parts for many decades after
that—up through the mid-
’60s, at least.
