Sveinn Ragnarsson, Reykjavik, Iceland, 1970 Dodge Challenger 440
I’m upgrading my Dodge Challenger 1970 from a 318 to 440cid. I have been searching for a reasonably priced radiator without muchluck. I found a BRAND NEW 3 row radiator, that the seller says fits thefollowing models: Plymouth 1969 Belvedere, Fury, Satellite, Road Runner with383ci/440ci, 1970 Fury with 383ci/440ci, Dodge 1969 – 70 Monaco , Polarawith 383/440 ci, Chrysler 1969 – 70 Imperial with 440ci, 1969 – 70 Newport,New Yorker, 300, Town & Country with 383ci/440ci
The Core dimensions are: 17 1/2″ (between tanks) x 26″ x 2 1/4″ (thick).12″ transmission oil cooler in the bottom tank. This unit will work forAutomatic or Manual transmission applications. 1 1/2″ inch inlet (top) hoseconnection and 1 3/4″ outlet (bottom) hose connection. 3 rows of 1/2″ inchtubes on 9/16″ centers. In the picture the upper hose is on the passengerside and the lower hose on the driver side that looks like fitting the RBengine.
Do you know if this radiator will fit my Challenger after the engine swap? Kind Regards, Sveinn
Sveinn, probably, although it also probably won’t be a total bolt-in sincethe car most likely now has a 22″ wide radiator yoke opening and the newC-body radiator has some small bracket differences.
Here’s what you’ll need to do:
1. The pass. side bracket MAY need to me modified a bit to clear the top ofthe frame rail.
2. Then, bolt in the driver’s side, the holes should line up. Now, makingsure it’s level, drill holes in the yoke for the passenger side bolts. Onceyou are sure it fits, then you can open up the yoke opening to 26″ – Iusually use a sabre saw, but an air shears or air nibbler works well, too.
