Needs Release
Previiously, you had addressed a reader’s
question on disc-to-plate clearance for a
diaphragm clutch to be set at 0.030˝ with
the clutch released. Why would there be
any gap if the clutch is released? Would
the disc not be required to be mated to the
pressure plate? I am understanding the
word “released” means the clutch pedal is
all the way out.
The reference is to the clutch being
released, IE, disconnected, disengaged,
whatever…pedal depressed. Foot off pedal
= clutch engaged; car moves!
That’s why the “throw out” bearing is
correctly called a release bearing. Again,
no pressure on pedal = engaged.
