2003 Dodge Caravan. The
steering rack is leaking. My
book doesn’t show a piece
by piece of the rack. What is
needed and how to I seal that
thing up?
If the inner tie rod boot
is leaking, that’s prima facie
evidence that the inner seal
is leaking, the boot is just a
dust cover. You can buy a seal
kit (Rock Auto P/N 8949), but,
realistically, you’ll probably
wind up swapping the rack.
Ditto for virtually any other
leak, but first insure that a
hydraulic line isn’t the actual
cause (dripping down and
appearing to be a rack leak).
