Pipe Dream

Joe Virello’s ’65 Dart GT convertible gets its giddyap from a built ’78 440 with a trick exhaust. The unique 1-7/8˝ forward headers dump into the 3˝ collectors, just forward of the front wheels. The system, with dual electric cutouts uses 18 ft of 3˝ welded pipe, incorporates Flowmaster 44s and ends in 4˝ exhaust tips. The 727 T-Flite feeds back to a 9-in. 3.55-cogged rear supported by a custom 4-link suspension with QA1 coilovers. The undercarriage was braced 17 ways from Monday with a truckload of steel tubing. Joe rides around his Camano, Island, Washington hometown on 18 rollers front; 20s out back, in the comfort of his fully custom interior that features 8-way electric/heated seats. The trunk also got the custom treatment, but Joe prefers to spend his time in the driver’s seat. And who can blame him?
