Juice On The Loose

0

I am driving my 1972 Plymouth Satellite (360/727) again after it has been sitting for a while. It had a transmission
leak (bad freeze plug in the yoke) and I
was dumping transmission fluid into it a lot
before I stopped driving it. The yoke has
been replaced (long story got a replacement
yoke from a well-known supplier that
was a POS tossed a U-joint and ended up
having a local drive shaft company fix the
shaft).
The fluid is a mix of various Dexron
fluids. I know you recommend Ford fluid.
I visited the supply houses yesterday and
found a bunch of different “types” of fluid.
Which one should I use? And, since my
torque converter does not have a drain,
how do I flush it with the new fluid. I have
been thinking about removing the return
line from the radiator and letting it flow into
a bucket while pouring fresh fluid into the
pan. Is this practical and how many quarts
should I use to flush?

It simply isn’t at all critical. Virtually any
ATF will be fine, as will a mix. Since this
tranny never blew up, no fluid douche will
be needed. Type F results in slightly firmer
shifts.
Only â€66 trannys were supposed to
have “wet” yokes, so this is strange.
