Mega Mopar Action Series – Extra Coverage Mega Showtime ‘15

As promised, here is more coverage from the two Mega Mopar Action Series shows featured in the December ’15 issue: Rockingham North Carolina and Martin Michigan (US 131 Motorsports Park)

North Carolina is Mopar County. It’s home to Petty Enterprises among other major Mopar facilities. It’s also home to the famous Rocking Dragway, honcho’d by the equally famous Steve Earwood—a race enthusiast from way back. Steve Always looks forward to the Mopar event on the Rock’s busy schedule. This was the 24th Mopar event held at the North Carolina facility, and nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina in that morning. Perfect weather, a great turnout, a feature-packed program and Mopar Action was there (for a change). Steve runs a tight show—the track is always prepped to the max, the whole facility is kept spotlessly clean and it’s good times for everyone.

Our perennial favorite at Rocking is Mike Daurity and his Super Bee. Mike tries to go quicker each year. Next year he may even be too quick to photograph—just a blur. Mike always take top honors for Best Paint (shaker can class).

Editor’s pick was Jim Cunningham’s ’49 5.7 Hemi Plymouth convertible. What we didn’t have room to show in the Dec. issue was Jim’s amazingly detailed interior and trunk and his digital dash.

Need a nap? This Dakota bed for 50 bucks sure beats the price of a motel.

No need to travel to Egypt of Vegas to enjoy the wonders of Luxor. This 2015 Challenger Scat Pack had the Vegas theme with a roulette wheel, slots, 2 Blackjack tables and scantily-clad girls passing out gingrr ale and Tootsie Rolls.

Gen 3 Hemi engine covers are a canvas to budding artists—good and bad. These looked pretty good.

The Rockingham show field. The cars this year were much smaller than in past events.

Larry Shambley’s “Alas Poor Yorick” ’02 PT Cruiser was the upbeat car of the event. He has more skulls painted on the car than you can shake a stick at (to coin a phrase). That skull outside mirror is way cool—especially if the eyes light up and shoot lasers. We like the matching trailer that we presume is packed with more skulls. That’s Uncle Henry in the shotgun seat. He takes over the driving chores when Larry needs a break. It’s a hoot whenever he’s pulled over by the coppers

.

Not into Shambley’s skulls? Maybe Derek Carver’s ’11 Charger with a Black Widow spider theme is more your taste. Note the rare factory eyeball option. Tres kewl.
