Mega Mopar Action Series – Extra Coverage Mega Showtime ‘15

As promised, here is more coverage from the two Mega Mopar Action Series shows featured in the December ’15 issue: Rockingham North Carolina and Martin Michigan (US 131 Motorsports Park)

Martin (US 131 Motorsports Park)

You can find the track in Martin, Mich. By going to Google Earth and clicking on Martin, Mich. Then click on China so you can see the Great Wall. Not that that has anything to do with Mega Mopar, but it’s an interesting change of pace. Now click back on Martin. See how fast you can get there from China. Amazing. If you zoom in you should be able to see the Mega Mopar event, in Google’s history pages because it happened a while ago. If you can’t find it on Google, here’s what it would look like if you could.

This was the second annual Mopars at Martin in the Mega Mopar Action Series. Prior to last year’s event, the track, billed as “the fastest track in Michigan,” the previous Mopar event hosted by the track was back in 2011. Last year’s event saw a satisfactory turnout in all categories, and this year’s show indicates a growing interest and presence among local Mopar fans. Martin features core Mopar fare: racing, car show and swapmeet. The numbers were up from last year, and the track folks are optimistic about growing the future Mopar events.

Mopar Action’s ace lensmen, TheBruntBros oiled up the wheels on the company skateboard (they had to double up because the second board was in the shop) for the trek out to the Motor State to bring back these photos (some even in focus) along with trinkets from souvenir stores and receipts from the massage parlors along the way.

Bill Meece stands his car up on its hind wheels, but not high enough (or too high) to win Top Mod. He came in runner-up.

Jim Burza did a great job cloning a ’68 Hemi Dart the way it would have looked when it would have been picked up at the Hurst lot. He repro’d all the paperwork, including window stick and the stickers, and even displayed a magazine article “A Team” written by our very own Bill Brunt (translated from the Polish by Mel Coznowsi, night janitor at Harris Pub. Bill is the second half of TheBruntBros sharing the fame with brother Nick. Jim‘s ’66 Hemi came from a Willys gasser and sports the correct facgory crossram and carbs. Steel fenders will soon be replaced with correct fiberglass. Jim says the Holy Grail on these cars is the outside mirror block-off plate. Repops are made of aluminum. But Jim found and NOS chrome-plated steel plate on eBay located in Mexico for $200. The seller said he had a box of ‘em.

Norm Burza saw this ad in the Kalamazoo Gazette for the new ’69 Charger. He was so impressed that he bought one just like it. He added the rare fitted logo’d luggage, just like Mercedes did with their 300SL.

The Martin even was fun for the whole family
(gee, did we just say that?)

One of the cars for sale was this ’61 Valiant for 3 grand. Mileage was said to be 34K.

One of the big mysteries at the show was the two different hubcap logos on the wheels taken off the same ’31 Dodge. Maybe someone out there has an explanation. Wheels went to one Mo’fan who plans to put them on his Hellcat to make it different from all the other zillion Hellcats out there. Sharpest set of wheels that we’ve seen in a long time.

One of the many outstanding cars on the show filed was Larry and Lynn’s red and black ’65 Dodge Coronet.

All the show car winners. They know who they are. Do you?

Ron Daus won Peoples’ Choice with his ’69 Western Sport Special Dodge Dart.
