Mopar Action On-line – Tech Questions

Tech Question

roger clark, strum, WI, 1964 dodge polara 413

I am putting a 4 speed in my Polara using a trans with a yokestyle drive shaft (’68-69) instead of the older flat flange style would youhappen to know the length of drive shaft I need? I’m on a tight schedule andwould like to have the driveshaft ready when I put the motor back in.
Thanks, Roger

This is a slippery slope since the ’64 Dodge was never built using theslip-yoke type of front U-joint. The ’65 parts book (1965 first year forslip-yoke propshafts) gave these dimensions for all body style Coronetsexcept wagons:

318, 361, 383, 3-spd. manual…… 54-3/8″
318, 361, 383, 426-S, T/Flite….. 54-3/8″
361, 383, 426-S, A833…………. 54-3/4″
Hemi, A833…………………… 53″
Hemi, T/Flite………………… 53″

Since ’65 Coronets were 116″ WB, and your ’64 Polara was 119″, you’d want toadd 3″ to each of those dimensions. Still, refer back to my first sentence.I’d sure rather measure!
