Rack & Pinon For ’68 392 ‘Cuda

Tech Question

Marshall Rule, Oklahoma City, OK, 1968 Plymouth Barracuda 392

I have a 1957 392 Hemi and am wanting to put it in a 1968 Barracuda I need to go to a rack and pinion but I don’t want to buy an entire K-member. Is there a bolt on kit for A-bodies that you are aware of or a method to get around the (manual) steering box as that’s the only thing keeping me from progressing?

Marshall-

First, IÂ’d be remiss if I didnÂ’t mention what a terrible swap this is. That old elephant is just SO heavy and SO antiquated. Result: Ill handling and braking, wonÂ’t hook up, etc.

There’s no bolt-on rack kit for A-bodies. The Australians have found some ‘80s Euro GM rack that’ll go about where the center link was, but it requires a large oil pan notch. The drag racers have historically flipped the lower ball joint and used a front-mount rack, but the geometry is so bad it is barely OK for straight-line use.
