340 Hop Up

Tech Question

Mike Riccio, Shelton, CT ,70 Barracuda

Hi Rick,

I am a subscriber of Mopar Action and I would like to ask a question. I have ’70 Barracuda and a virgin bore ’73 340 block. Will the followinglist of parts work well in my 340?

3.58 stroke forged crank
h-beam rods
Diamond pistons #51023 (.060 over 360 pistons)
moly rings
cloyes 9-3103 true roller timing chain
Comp Cams XE274H hydraulic cam
stock push rods
stock rocker arms/shafts
915 heads (2.02/1.60) 67 – 70 CC from Aerohead Racing (division of Indy Cylinder Heads)
Edelbrock 7576 Air Gap intake
Edelbrock 750 Performer Carb
TTI headers 1 5/8 – 1 3/4
Flex-A-Lite electric fan

There will be a Keisler TKO500 5 – Speed trans and 3.23 to 1 gears.

The car will be used as a daily driver and a weekend cruiser. Reliability and dependability are really number 1 for me. I appreciate your input/feedback. Thank you.

Mike, As long as the crank is 318/340 main journal size, and the fit-up/pistonflycutting is performed/measured to get the CR under control, sure. Soundslike a pretty nice combo!

It might be a good idea to get 2 adjustable “checking” pushrods to confirmthe “correctness” of the stock pushrods. Then, a set of cr-moly 5/16″pusrods is a wide investment.

And, if I had my choice, I’d use #308 casting heads.

Rick
