william miller, portland OR, 1974 dodge challenger 440
have a carb. backfire with flames coming out the filter, carwas running fine when shut off . Went out, tried to start , bang went thecarb and flames. Does not start

Most likely: Timing chain skipped teeth, or insufficient torque on cam boltallowed cam sprocket to mis-index.
