hi, great tech. My question is: I'm having a freind do a cam change for me, he said maybe we have to drop the oil pan is this true? It is a 69 440 motor.

Not true.
You do have to snip the front of the pan gasket (box cutter, razor blade, etc) - this will be obvious when you remove the timing cover. FelPro provides a partial gasket, or just use RTV.
