Tech Question

Nick Wisniewski, Fontana, CA, 1973 Plymouth satellite 360

I have a 360 with a 904 trans, I'd like to put a bigger engine and just change the torque conveter and flexplate on the trans. Whats the largest engine I can bolt up to a 904?

I noticed that some parts stores have flexplates for 400's that fit the 904, is that the limit?

Nick, 360 is the limit! Anything larger (unless you buy or build a stroker 360, such as the MP 408 crate engine) requires a A-727-B trans. The engines are totally different families and the rear-of-block bolt patterns are likewise totally different.

A engines: 273, 318, 340, 360 - these all have distributor in rear.
B, RB - these all have front mounted ditributor:
B engines: 350, 361, 383, 400
RB engines (use same trans as B engine) 413, 426, 440.
