Mopar Action Article Extra2008 LX & Beyond Nats Extreme Makeover
Extreme makeover contest winner Brad Cotterman and his wife, Annette, and their made-over ’06 Charger SRT8. The 2008 LX & Beyond Nationals, held in Columbus, Ohio was the first installment of what is a good bet to become a regular event for Modern Mopar enthusiasts. The event's co-founders, Anthony Carter and Chuck Green, rallied the support of over 40 sponsors from across the inaugural event happen. There are no ‘Cudas, Road Runners, Dusters or GTXs at this event. It’s just for the late-model stuff. The event features a car show, Quick-16 Racing, V6 & 5.7 Hemi Class bracket racing, 6.1 Hemi Class bracket racing, and an Extreme Makeover Contest, which we talk about here. The makeover team led by Bill Cochrane of C3 Motorsports and TommyZ of TommyZ Design, held a contest prior to the LX Nats, enticing owners, family members and friends to write a brief letter explaining why they or someone they know deserved to have their vehicle receive a makeover. Letters poured in from all over the country from enthusiasts wanting the more than $22,000 grand prize in parts and labor. The winner turned out to be Brad Cotterman, the owner of a 2006 Brilliant Black Dodge Charger SRT8 in Lima, Ohio.
Brad’s wife, Annette, had been diagnosed with a rare condition called Susac Syndrome which causes a person to lose their vision. At the time she was diagnosed, she was attending school to become a dental hygienist but had to put her plans on hold to address the rapidly worsening condition. Brad had to take over the sole responsibility of providing for his family. Modifying their Charger wasn't high on the list of the family budget. Brad originally had no plans of entering the contest, but his wife encouraged him to enter. The massive makeover package included all of the following items which were installed at Mike Ward Racing in Columbus, Ohio through the collaborative efforts of C3 Motorsports, Modern Horsepower and ACG Motorsports: Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires, TIS 07 chrome wheels, American Racing headers with high-flow cats (installed by Southern Hotrod), Pedders USA suspension (installed by Backstreet Performance), Corsa Performance exhaust, Nitrous Express kit, Tommy Z Design "Limited Edition" Challenger-style hood and Grip Tuning custom body kit (painted by True 2 Form Collision Repair Center of Akron, OH), flat-black vinyl graphics provided by Grip Tuning, Billet Technology complete under the hood and interior dress-up kit, Katzkin custom leather interior, Advanced Automotive Concepts complete halo kit, GS Motorsports polished intake, Ultimate Pedals custom aluminum racing pedals, Diablosport Predator handheld tuner, BND Automotive Products and Custom Swag provided by Jina's Sew Simple Embroidery. Brad chose to "Pay It Forward" and donated all of his stock SRT parts to another deserving enthusiast who had entered the contest. The runner-up was Nick Earls of Kansas City, Missouri, the owner of a 2006 Top Banana (Yellow) Dodge Charger Daytona, which was selected as the second makeover recipient. In addition to Brad's SRT rims and an SRT hood, the sponsors of the makeover provided some goodies to the second build which included Eagle F1 Supercar tires from Goodyear Tires, Billet Technology complete under the hood and interior dress-up kit, Corsa Performance exhaust, Roadwire custom leather interior and a Xenon custom body kit. I think Brad best summed up the feeling of both winners when he said, "What an awesome prize to win for just telling your life story."
